Book title: Tricks of the Trade [-]
Author: Howard Becker Posted October 07, 2001 I never really got into this book. Becker is trying to teach the reader how to make empirical data collection and theory interact with one another in order to make the research experience more interesting, rewarding and successful. However, I never really got the point. I felt like he was talking all around the problem of generating findings from data--he emphasized the "imagery" of research and "sampling" (but not the methods kind of sampling) to gain insight into your project. I just couldn't wrap my mind around what these concepts meant -- I guess I need a more concrete guide. I only read about half the book because it just wasn't that useful to me. |
