Book title: Peace in the House: Tales from a Yiddish Kitchen [+]*
Author: Faye Moskowitz Posted October 31, 2003 This is a lovely collection of autobiographical short stories by an unusual woman. The narrator (who is also named Faye) looks back on her life and examines the fears and upheavals of her childhood, her uneven but joyful marriage and young adulthood, and the uncertainties and accomplishments of her middle and old age. Faye's struggle with her Jewish identity is interwoven through all these episodes, as she by turns rejects, ignores and embraces her ethnic and religious heritage. The stories are tender, funny, honest and very human. |
